Telstra’s Customer Service Debacle – My Frustrating Experience
Title: Zero Stars for Telstra – My Experience with Unnecessary Headaches
Let me paint you a picture: you’re finally taking control of your phone account, switching it into your own name. It’s a small but empowering step, right? That’s how I felt recently when I moved my Telstra account under my name. Little did I know, I was walking straight into a customer service nightmare.
The Issue: Upgrade and Protect Gone Missing
In the process of transferring my account, Telstra decided—without my knowledge or consent—to remove my “Upgrade and Protect” service. This was an essential feature for me, and I had no intention of giving it up. Yet, it was gone.
When I contacted Telstra to fix their mistake, I was told that the service could only be added at the point of sale. Excuse me? That’s completely untrue because they’ve added it as an add-on for me in the past.
Complaint #1: Open and Shut, No Resolution
Determined to get this sorted, I filed a complaint. Telstra’s response? “We can’t add it back,” followed by the swift closure of my complaint. No further explanation. No resolution. Just a “too bad, so sad” approach to customer service.
Complaint #2: Rinse and Repeat
Frustrated but not ready to give up, I reopened the complaint. Why should I let their mistake cost me a service I relied on? However, their responses continued to be dismissive and unhelpful.
TIO: Taking it Further
When it became clear Telstra wasn’t going to fix their error, I took my case to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO). It’s sad that I had to escalate the matter just to get someone to listen. Telstra, if you’re reading this: it shouldn’t take an external body to hold you accountable for basic customer service.
My Verdict: 0 Stars, Telstra
To say I’m disappointed in Telstra would be an understatement. Their lack of transparency, accountability, and outright refusal to correct their mistake is unacceptable. Is it any wonder so many people complain about headaches dealing with this company?
Telstra, get your act together. Your customers deserve better than this.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a Telstra customer, stay vigilant. Keep records of your interactions, and don’t be afraid to take your issues to the TIO if Telstra gives you the runaround. We deserve better than this subpar treatment.
