Coffee with Luke ☕ | June Edition: Men’s Mental Health Matters
Hey friends,
Welcome back to another edition of Coffee with Luke. This month’s brew comes with a powerful message—June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s something that hits close to home for me.
As I sip my flat white and look around at the people who’ve supported me through thick and thin—my family, my amazing support team, and my mates—I’m reminded just how important it is that we keep talking about men’s mental health.
The Silent Battle Many Face
Too often, men are told to "toughen up," "shake it off," or "just deal with it." But that kind of thinking only makes it harder for us to reach out when we need help. We’re human too—life can get overwhelming, and emotions don’t make us weak. They make us real.
Over the years, I’ve learned that vulnerability isn’t a weakness—it’s a strength. Speaking up, asking for support, and working through the tough times with professionals, friends, and family takes courage.
My Journey
As someone living with an intellectual disability and managing physical health conditions, I know firsthand how overwhelming it can get. Some days feel heavier than others. But I’ve been lucky to have a great team in my corner: from my psychologists and physiotherapists to my GP, podiatrist, and even my best mate Mandy.
But I also know there are so many guys out there who suffer in silence. Maybe they don’t know who to talk to or feel like they’ll be judged. If that’s you—or someone you know—please know this: you are not alone.
Let’s Break the Stigma Together
This month, I’m encouraging every bloke out there to check in with themselves—and each other. Whether it’s over a coffee, a walk, or just a quick message, a simple “how are you really doing?” can make a massive difference.
Here’s how we can all do our bit:
☑️ Listen without judgment
☑️ Encourage professional help
☑️ Share your own story—it might inspire someone else
☑️ Make time for your mental health
☑️ Look after your mates—and yourself
Ending With a Sip of Hope
So, as we honour Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s start meaningful conversations. Let’s support each other. And let’s remind all the men in our lives—it’s okay to not be okay.
Thanks for joining me for this special cup of coffee. Let’s keep showing up, for ourselves and for each other.
Until next time,
Luke ☕
