My Life Lately: A Deep Dive into the Highs, Lows, and Everyday Moments

Life never really slows down, does it? Over the past months, my world has been filled with everything from moments of joy to real challenges that have tested my patience and resilience. This blog is my way of putting it all down—reflecting on family, health, work, my social life, and even the things that keep me up at night (hello, bank issues). Grab a coffee or a tea—this one’s a long read. Family: Love, Strength, and Challenges Family is at the heart of everything I do. Mum’s journey has been the hardest—her cancer has come back, and while it isn’t curable, it is treatable. Watching her go through injections, appointments, and the daily ups and downs has been tough, but I’m inspired by her strength. I’ve been with her at the Mater Hospital for oncology check-ups and treatments, supporting her as best I can. Dad and my sister Claire have been my anchors too. We may not always have the words for what we’re feeling, but we show up for each other. My cousin Jacqui Gasper has also been a ...

Stressed, Upset, and Frustrated – But Grateful for Amanda Watt

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been carrying around a weight that just doesn’t seem to go away. It hasn’t been work or family, but something that most people probably take for granted:  my bank . When you walk into a bank, you expect it to be simple. Your money should be safe, your accounts should work, and if something goes wrong, it should be fixed quickly. But that hasn’t been my experience. Instead, I’ve been dealing with account restrictions, unexplained delays, and phone calls that seem to go around in circles without real solutions. It’s hard to put into words how stressful it is to live without access to your own money. Every day feels like a battle — worrying about bills, thinking about rent, wondering if I’ll be able to buy food, or even just stressing about how long it’s going to take before things are finally sorted. Being left in the dark is the hardest part. When you’re told it could take “more than 28 days,” it’s not just a process — it’s your life on hold. I’ve walke...

A Day Out Visiting Real Estate Agents

Image
Today I had the chance to get out in the community with my support worker, and we decided to spend some time visiting a few local real estate agents. The goal wasn’t necessarily to sit down for long conversations with each one, but more to introduce myself, see who was around, and start building a little collection of business cards. I didn’t get to meet most of the agents in person this time, but that’s okay—sometimes the first step is just making the rounds and gathering information. What made the day extra special, though, was getting the opportunity to meet  Nyree Ewings  and her team. Nyree is one of the best-known real estate agents in the area, and she has a reputation for being both professional and approachable. Meeting her face-to-face was a great experience. She was welcoming, took the time to chat with me, and her team was really friendly as well. To top it off, I even managed to get a photo with her, which was a really cool moment that I’ll definitely remember. Ny...

Winning the Upgrade: iPhone 17 Pro Max + iOS 26

So I finally made the leap — I got myself the  iPhone 17 Pro Max , and paired it up with Apple’s brand-new  iOS 26 . After a few days of solid use, I thought I’d share what’s stood out (good and less good), what’s new, and what I’m excited to try next. First Impressions & Hardware Highlights Design & display The 17 Pro Max sports a  6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED  display.  Apple +2 Canstar Blue +2 Apple has refined the chassis: a  heat-forged aluminium unibody  aims to combine strength and elegance.  Apple +1 The device is heavier/thicker than its predecessor, but that extra bulk feels justified by the bigger battery and better thermal control.  WIRED +2 GadgetGuy +2 The screen gets very bright, helping outdoors in harsh sunlight.  WIRED +1 Performance & internals Under the hood is the  A19 Pro  chip.  WIRED +3 Canstar Blue +3 MacRumors +3 Apple seems to have improved thermal management — vapor chamber or othe...

Death Mushrooms: Part One

A Blog by Luke Ransley When you hear the word “mushrooms,” most people think of food, flavour, or something earthy and natural. But in 2023, in a quiet Victorian town, that word became forever tied to something much darker—death, suspicion, and headlines that travelled across the world. Stan’s new three-part documentary series,  Death Mushrooms , dives deep into the story of  Erin Patterson , the woman at the centre of the infamous mushroom lunch that left three people dead and one critically ill. This first part of the series sets the stage, giving us not only the timeline of events but also the atmosphere of a small town suddenly thrown into the harshest of spotlights. The Sunday Lunch That Changed Everything It all began with what was supposed to be a simple family gathering. A homemade meal, a beef Wellington, conversation around the table. But what followed was tragedy: three lives lost, one survivor left fighting, and a community in shock. The cause? Suspected  deat...

Turning Small Beginnings Into Big Dreaming: A Review of Just Getting Started by Brittney Saunders

When I first heard about  Just Getting Started  by Brittney Saunders, I was immediately intrigued: a memoir + business book hybrid, by an Australian entrepreneur who built her brand from scratch. As someone who loves reading about how real people navigate uncertainty and build something meaningful, this book promised stories, vulnerabilities, and lessons—and it delivers. Below I share what works, where it could dig deeper, and who I think this book will resonate with. What  Just Getting Started  Is—and What It Promises Published in May 2025,  Just Getting Started  (272 pages) positions itself as both a memoir and a practical guide.  Booktopia +2 Angus & Robertson +2  The subtitle— Building an Empire From Your Back Pocket —accurately hints at the heart of this book: how to leverage what you already have, step by step, to build something bigger. Saunders shares her journey from Newcastle, NSW, to being the founder of  FAYT the Label , a fas...
