Coffee with Luke: Checking In — How I’ve Been Doing Lately

It’s been a little while since I’ve sat down to really check in — not just with others, but with myself. Life has had its fair share of ups and downs lately, but I’ve learned something really important along the way: it’s okay to pause, to breathe, and to take time to look after yourself.

As the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
That quote has stuck with me because it’s true. Between work, appointments, and life’s daily challenges, I’ve realised that it’s okay to slow down — to find small pockets of peace in the middle of the chaos.

Lately, I’ve been focusing more on balance. Balancing my physical health, mental well-being, and trying to enjoy the simple moments — a walk with Mum, a chat with Mandy, a quiet coffee in the morning before work. Those small things keep me grounded.

There have been days that felt heavy, especially when pain or tiredness creeps in. But as my physiotherapist once told me, progress doesn’t always look big — sometimes it’s as simple as showing up, doing your best, and being kind to yourself.

“Healing takes time, and asking for help is a courageous step.”
That one means a lot to me. I’ve been surrounded by an incredible team of people who help me stay on track — from my physios and doctors to my psychologist and friends. Each one plays a role in helping me move forward, both physically and mentally.

🌿 Finding the Light in Everyday Moments

Something I’ve learned over the past few months is that happiness doesn’t have to be loud. It can be found in quiet moments — when the sun hits the trees just right, when a customer smiles and says thank you, or when someone goes out of their way to be kind.

Working at the fruit and veg shop keeps me connected to people. I’ve met so many beautiful customers who remind me that kindness still exists in the world. Sometimes, the smallest gestures — like picking out someone’s favourite avocado or giving them a laugh — make the biggest difference.

“Be kind. Always. You never know what someone is going through.”

☀️ Moving Forward

I’m learning to take each day as it comes — one step, one breath, one good moment at a time. I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t need to. What matters is that I’m trying, growing, and learning to be proud of how far I’ve come.

If you’re reading this and you’re having a tough time too, please remember this:
“Even the smallest steps forward still count as progress.”

So here’s to moving forward — with strength, with hope, and with gratitude.
Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey so far. You all mean more than you know.

Until next time,
— Luke ☕💛
