When Quality Doesn’t Match the Price – My Recent Experience with YETI
I’ve always been a big supporter of YETI products. Over the years I’ve owned quite a few — drink bottles, tumblers, mugs — and honestly, I’ve never really had a problem with them. The quality has always been solid, reliable, and worth the money. That’s why this recent experience has been frustrating and disappointing.
Recently, YETI released a new colour, and I was really keen to get the drink bottle in that shade. Like always, I expected the same high standard I’ve come to trust from the brand. For the first few days, everything seemed fine — no issues, no concerns.
But then the lid started getting extremely tight. It sealed so hard that I could barely get it off. It wasn’t just a one-time thing either — it kept happening. Eventually, I had to take the bottle back to where I purchased it from, and they kindly helped me lodge a warranty claim. They managed to get the lid off and said it was “fixed,” but honestly, I know it’s going to happen again. When something starts like that, it usually doesn’t just magically stop.
On top of that, I started noticing scratches appearing on the side of the bottle. Now, I understand general wear and tear happens, but this was different. The coating seemed to be coming off far too easily — especially for a premium product that costs a fair bit of money. When you pay for quality, you expect durability.
I submitted another claim explaining that the coating shouldn’t scratch this easily and that the bottle wasn’t holding up to the quality I expected. Unfortunately, the claim was rejected. The only thing offered was a $20 discount.
To be honest — I’m not happy.
It’s not my fault that the coating is wearing off prematurely. I paid for a high-quality item, and in this case, I don’t feel like I received one. YETI has built its reputation on durability and toughness, which is exactly why I’ve supported the brand for so long. But when a product doesn’t meet that standard, it’s disappointing — especially when the resolution doesn’t reflect the issue.
I’m sharing this not to complain endlessly, but to be honest about my experience. I still believe YETI makes great products overall — but quality should be consistent, and customers should feel confident in what they’re paying for.
Hopefully, this is something that improves in the future.
