Coffee with Luke: A Conversation on Leadership and Integrity with Kifah Bulhan, Director of Fivestar Community Care

In this episode, we focus on Kifah Bulhan, the remarkable director of Fivestar Community Care, an organization dedicated to providing quality support to individuals in need. Although my personal journey with Fivestar was brief and met with challenges, particularly due to a difficult experience with one support worker, it’s important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that Kifah brings to her role.

The Vision Behind Fivestar Community Care

Kifah Bulhan founded Fivestar Community Care with a mission to create an inclusive, compassionate, and client-centered approach to disability support. Her vision is to empower individuals by offering services that are not only accessible but also deeply personal, catering to the unique needs of every client.

When speaking to those who have benefited from the care provided by Fivestar, it’s clear that Kifah has created a supportive environment where clients are treated with dignity and respect. She emphasizes values such as trust, reliability, and community connection, which form the foundation of Fivestar’s approach to care.

My Experience at Fivestar

While my time with Fivestar was short-lived, I had the opportunity to observe the organization’s operations firsthand. The care model is built on a personalized approach, something I really appreciated. Unfortunately, a less-than-ideal experience with one support worker ultimately led me to part ways with the company. It’s worth noting that this individual experience should not overshadow the good work being done by Fivestar or reflect on Kifah’s leadership.

Sometimes, mismatches happen in care services, and in my case, that mismatch caused me to seek support elsewhere. That said, I have nothing but respect for Fivestar Community Care and its director, Kifah. The broader organizational mission and the culture she fosters are commendable.

Leadership in Action: Kifah's Role in the Community

What stands out about Kifah is her unwavering commitment to quality care. Her leadership is hands-on, and she’s deeply involved in ensuring that both clients and staff uphold the high standards Fivestar is known for. Her approach is one of collaboration—working alongside clients to tailor services to fit their individual needs. This flexibility and responsiveness are key reasons why many continue to turn to Fivestar for support.

Parting Thoughts

Though my journey with Fivestar was brief, the core values instilled by Kifah Bulhan are something I will always respect. Sometimes, in the world of support work, there will be experiences that don’t align perfectly with your needs, and that’s okay. It’s part of finding the right fit for you. My departure wasn’t a reflection of Fivestar Community Care as a whole but rather an isolated situation that didn’t suit me personally.

As I continue my journey with other support services, I carry with me the knowledge that there are organizations like Fivestar out there, led by passionate individuals like Kifah, who truly care about making a difference.
