πŸš—πŸ’Έ The Uber Ride That Made My Jaw Drop

Today I had one of those moments where you look at your phone, see the price of something, and just  stare  like, “You’ve GOT to be kidding me…” Because that’s exactly what happened when I booked an Uber. I only needed to go about  20 minutes away  — nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary. Just your regular little trip. But then the ride ends, and the total pops up… πŸ‘‰  $77. For twenty minutes. SEVENTY. SEVEN. DOLLARS. Honestly, it felt absolutely  disgusting  that they charged that much. And what made it even worse? Right there on the Uber app, it had that lovely message: “Popular demand for drivers right now.” Translation:  We’re gonna charge you WAY more because we can. I get that drivers need to be paid…and I fully support that. But sometimes these surge prices feel like they’re aimed right at the people who don’t have many options — and today, that was definitely me. I stepped out of that car thinking,  How can a 20-minute ride be ...

Creative writing: The Girl in the Photograph ✨

Sequel to “The Mystery of Stall 47” The photograph haunted Mira all week. She kept it tucked in the front pocket of her camera bag, pulling it out whenever she was alone — studying the girl’s expression, the tilt of her head, the faint smile that felt both familiar and secretive. The girl looked like her, yes… but there was something more. A spark. A message waiting to be understood. Leo had been calling it  The Spooky Magic Stall Saga , and while he joked constantly, Mira could tell he was worried — or maybe just trying to keep things normal. “Stall 47 probably just popped into another dimension,” he said casually at lunch one day. “Markets do that sometimes.” Mira only rolled her eyes. By Friday afternoon, she made up her mind. “We’re going back,” she told Leo. “To Salamanca. Tomorrow. Same time.” Leo froze mid-bite of his sandwich. “Mira, what if the cloaked lady sends us back to the 1970s permanently? I don’t do retro food.” She shoved his shoulder playfully. “Come on. Aren’t y...

Creative Writing: The Mystery of Stall 47

A creative story set at Salamanca Market, Hobart Every Saturday, Salamanca Market buzzed like a living painting — stalls splashed with colour, the scent of hot doughnuts floating through the morning air, and the chatter of locals and travellers weaving together like a gentle soundtrack. But on this particular Saturday, something felt different. Seventeen-year-old  Mira Lennox , a shy aspiring photographer who always dreamed of capturing something extraordinary, wandered through the crowds with her camera hanging from a worn leather strap. She’d lived in Hobart her whole life, yet Salamanca always surprised her — new stalls, new buskers, new treasures waiting to be discovered. Her best friend,  Leo Barlow , trailed behind her carrying a bag of fresh cherries and complaining between bites. “Mira, we’ve walked past three jam stalls and two soap stalls. What exactly are we looking for?” “I don’t know,” she said, scanning the rows. “But something is pulling me. I feel like… today’s...

Finding Joy in the Everyday: A Blog by Luke Ransley

Life has a funny way of reminding us that the best moments aren’t always the big ones. Sometimes it’s the little things — the coffee that warms your hands on a cool Brisbane morning, the chat with someone who genuinely listens, or the simple feeling of knowing you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. Over the last few weeks, I’ve really learned to slow down and appreciate these moments. Every day brings something different. Some days are busy with appointments — physio with George, psychology with Jodi, or a session with Jack on a Wednesday that somehow turns six hours into something that feels like twenty minutes. Other days are quiet, the kind where you get to breathe, reset, and remind yourself of how far you’ve come. One thing I’ve realised is this: “Healing isn’t a straight line — it’s a journey made up of tiny steps, small wins, and the people who stand beside you along the way.” Whether it’s a good session where everything makes sense or a tough one where your emotions feel heav...

“Six Hours on a Wednesday: Why Jack McCoy Makes Every Minute Worth It”

Image
There are people who enter your life quietly, without any big announcement or dramatic moment, and yet somehow they become one of the most positive parts of your week. That’s exactly what it has felt like working with Jack McCoy as my support worker. From day one, he showed up with this calm, open, easygoing energy that made everything feel more comfortable than I expected. I’ve had different support workers over the years, and it’s honestly rare to find someone who gets things right without needing a long explanation, someone who listens properly, someone who talks to you like a friend rather than someone who is being paid to spend time with you. Jack has this natural ability to make sessions feel relaxed, fun and genuinely meaningful in ways that are hard to put into words, but today I want to try — because he’s earned the longest, most detailed blog I can write. Some of the best moments with Jack happen without planning, like when we walked into Westfield Carindale and decided to ge...

Birthday Sips and Simple Moments

Today’s my birthday — and instead of doing something big or rushing around, I’m just sitting here, taking a moment for myself. The morning light is soft, the air feels calm, and I’ve got my Yeti mug in hand — the one my sister got me for my birthday. It’s one of those perfect, thoughtful gifts that make you smile every time you use it. Now, here’s the funny part: I’m not even sipping coffee… I’m sipping Sprite. Yep, Sprite in a Yeti mug. It’s chilled, fizzy, and exactly what I feel like right now. There’s something kind of nice about just doing things your own way, especially on your birthday. As I sit here, I find myself thinking about how far I’ve come this year — the people I’ve met, the new support workers I’ve connected with, the experiences I’ve had, and all the little things that have made life richer. Sometimes birthdays aren’t about big parties or loud celebrations — sometimes they’re about stillness, reflection, and just being grateful. So here’s to another year — to more lau...

Coffee with Luke

“A Moment to Breathe” There’s something special about a quiet morning coffee. The world feels like it’s on pause — the city slowly wakes up, the birds find their rhythm, and the smell of coffee reminds you that even in the rush of life, there’s always time to stop, breathe, and reflect. This week’s  Coffee with Luke  isn’t about anything fancy. It’s about those small moments that remind us to slow down. Life has been busy — between work, appointments, and making time for family, it’s easy to forget to just  be . But sitting with my cup today, I thought about how far I’ve come, how much I’ve grown, and how grateful I am for the people who walk beside me. Lately, I’ve been learning that self-care doesn’t always mean big changes. Sometimes it’s about taking five minutes to sit in the sun, message a friend, or enjoy a quiet coffee without checking your phone. Those moments — as small as they are — can bring you back to yourself. Over my latte this morning, I thought about con...

πŸ’™ The Budgy Smugglers Love Story – My Manly Adventure πŸ’™

There’s something truly iconic about walking through the heart of  Manly , New South Wales — the salty sea breeze in the air, the sound of waves rolling in, and the unmistakable Aussie energy buzzing through the streets. But nothing quite captured my heart like stepping into the  Budgy Smuggler shop , an experience that’s as fun, cheeky, and proudly Australian as the name itself. From the moment I walked in, I was surrounded by colour, laughter, and that unmistakable “good vibes only” feeling. The walls were lined with every kind of print you could imagine — flamingos, pineapples, waves, stripes, and even the classic Aussie flag. It wasn’t just a shop; it felt like a celebration of summer, mateship, and confidence. The staff were absolute legends — warm, funny, and full of personality. They made me feel right at home and helped me pick out the perfect pair of  Budgy Smugglers  that just screamed “Luke was here in Manly!” I ended up getting a pair that felt like the p...
